About Walter Hansel Winery & Vineyard

Walter Hansel was a lifelong wine enthusiast who had the vision to plant 250 vines in 1978. Stephen Hansel, Walter's son, planted additional acres in the late 1980's and began marketing wine in 1998. New vineyards and a new wine making facility were added at the family's estate in 1999.

In our first commercial vintage, 1996, we produced 70 cases of Pinot Noir and 350 cases of Chardonnay; and released this wine to the public in 1998.

Today, Walter Hansel Winery farms 80 acres of grapes and produces roughly 5,000 cases of Pinot Noir; 5,500 cases of Chardonnay; and 1,500 cases of Sauvignon Blanc.

All of our wines are Estate grown; our vineyard designated wines are an expression of the character of the variety of grape clone and how it integrates with the individual soils, elevations and climate environment. These wines are intended to vary in flavor, acidity and to a lesser degree, texture.

Our Estate wines (i.e., non-vineyard designated offerings) are a blend of many clones from a variety of vineyard locations. They are designed to be the most approachable wines at a young age.
